Where should I go on my next international vacation?

Posted by admin on September 30th, 2008 and filed under england paris vacation | 4 Comments »

Take a look at my past international vacations… Canada doesn't count in my book cause I have been there a trillion times… and neither does Puerto Rico, where I went in 1999, cause it's technically part of the U.S…

1998: England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales (with parents)
2000: Mexico
2001: Bahamas
2003: London, Paris, Rome
2003: Japan, Singapore, Malaysia
2004: Scandinavia and Russia
2005: Mexico and several Central American countries
2006: Brazil, Argentina and a really small part of Uruguay
2006: Australia
2007: Mexico

Some destinations I have in mind: South Africa, New Zealand (where I should have went last year), Dubai, Greece and Egypt. I could combine the last three into one trip and add some more countries to my itinerary.
I am also considering Germany for the Rock Am 2008, to see Metallica and Rage Against the Machine.
And please don't list any U.S. destinations because I have seen all 50 states, including Alaska and Hawaii.
The Germany vacation would include the obligatory side-trip to Amsterdam! =)
ROFL @ the last comment. I *went* to Brazil a few years ago.

I've been to Italy but not greece, but I'm sure it would be nice. I have been to England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales though, loved it. I'm glad to hear tell of an american with and interested to go international. I've been all over Europe, Canada, and the US. I was to go to Japan, just so I can say I went to Asia, minimal interest in China, Japan would be nice because it's a fist world country. since u r going to New Zealand, it's only like a 4 hour flight after that. Just Please don't do London LA, I did that and I nearly died. lol. but LA- Honolulu, Singapore-Australia that's going to be rough this summer, but so will New Zealand if u go because it's right next-door.

vacation scrapbooking?

Posted by admin on September 30th, 2008 and filed under london paris vacation | 11 Comments »

im doing a scrapbook on my recent vacation to paris, london, scotland and ireland. as i am a begginner scrapbooker i am a bit stuck and im not too sure how too start the scrapbook. i went to my local scrapbooking store and picked up some great things (stickers that say france and london, travel 12 by 12 papers etc) if anyone knows any good sites that show layouts of overseas traveling that would be great:) or just any ideas that could help me out would be greatly appreciated too!
thanks alot, and have a great day!

My fav. subject!
First layout the pictures in the order you'll want to view them in the book. You don't want to be flipping between pics. while you're trying to create your pages.
If you're going to become a scrap-a-holic, then you must go out and purchase some added deco's. I love using stamps, stencils, and die cuts. Some die-cuts (if easy enough) I will trace on my own paper then cut and re-use the original again. I feel that if you want to invest, the above extra's go a long way. Great places to get these are Hobby Lobby, Michaels, and Wal-mart. Some scrap stores are over rated, in return you pay more.
Don't over crowd the pages but don't leave them staring blank back at ya. Layout a couple of pages (without taping) and move the pics and deco's around to get different looks.
I could go on and on. What can I say, I live for this hobby. You can totally express yourself!!!
Enjoy!!!!

What are some really cool, cheap places to visit in Europe?

Posted by admin on September 30th, 2008 and filed under cheap paris vacation | 5 Comments »

As of now, I'm studying in Germany, the semester is almost over which means vacation time. I would like to travel a bit during that time.
I already went to Crakow, Berlin, Munich, Vienna, Freiburg, Zurich and the Alps, though you can never get enough of Switzerland.
What are some cool places I could go to? Barcelona? Rome? Venise? Paris? Bratislava? Zagreb? What about Stockholm?
Yes, Prague is also on the list, I'm 3 hours away from it :)
Ohrid, Macedonia, lovely and cheap ;o)

3 day vacation to Manchester, can we cover london?

Posted by admin on September 30th, 2008 and filed under paris family vacation | 2 Comments »

Hi all, I am traveling to Manchester this May around the 7th and am hoping to take my husband along so we can make it a family vacation. I've got a bunch of questions..
Is it possible to have a fun vacation while located in Manchester? We have to stay at hotel in manchester and fly into there for sure.

1) We will be going for about 3 days, so is there stuff to do in Manchester?

2) How do I get from Manchester to London? I see the virgin trains cost about 60 pounds one way.. Is it possible to commute to london two days to go sight seeing?

3) we really want to goto london, so thats one of the important parts of the vacation, though am sure how to manage it from manchester. Is it really tough to commute
our way for 2 days?

6) Will we be able to touch Paris by any chance? I see there is the eurostar, but I am not able to work out how we can plan all this with manchester as the base..

Thanks a lot.. I wanna know if we can have a chance at enjoying london while not staying in the city..
Can you please tell me in detail what are the best things to do in Manchester? Also, what is the cheapest I can find tickets between manchester and london for? (oh and I am from Chicago)

Train takes less than 2 1/2 hours Manchester to London so you can fit London in if you want, although it would be easier if you could stay the night in London. I think you would be crazy to try and fit Paris in if you are only there for 3 days. It might just be possible but you would end up spending more time on a train than in any of the cities. Manchester and London will have plenty to entertain you. If you are getting train tickets check out return costs and single costs as you can save a lot of money if you do some research.

how safe is booking through the internet?

Posted by admin on September 29th, 2008 and filed under england paris vacation | 7 Comments »

I am planning a vacation to europe but i am a bit apprehensive about booking online . what if the hotel I book does not even exist and just has a fake site to get money.
can anyone recomend affordable (really affordable ) hotel that you know are genuine.
I need hotels in these three locations.
1. paris ,France
2. Cherbourg , France
3. London , England
Thanks a lot everyone

book through expedia, they are great and a tip always look for a gold lock on the link bar, you should also have your phishing protection on, this detects known sites that are dodgy!

but yer you are perfectly safe to book online through expedia and they are very cheap on deals. ive just booked my hol through them going to las vegas :)

you usually see a gold lock when putting in your credit card details, this means your info is encrypted, so know one can read that information.

Personally i think if you pack too much into 3 days you'll rush around and miss a lot. Make it another time and focus on London rather than Paris.

It's best to stay in London for part of the time, so i have given you one of the good websites for selecting places to stay there:

London:http://www.cheaperthanhotels.co.uk/United-Kingdom/London/

Do your research on the official tourism site fo rBritain and send them an email with your specific questions - they are quite helfpful:

Official London Site via TourismRankings:http://www.tourismrankings.com/United-Kingdom/States-Cities/London/

For transport in London:http://www.tfl.gov.uk/

Railways/Trains:http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/

If you get stuck call in a local travel agent, but definitely book the hotels on a non US site - it's cheaper.

what are the things to avoid in rome, italy and paris, france?

Posted by admin on September 29th, 2008 and filed under paris family vacation | 3 Comments »

this is a family vacation, i need some tips how to save money on this trip. any advise.

We had a great family vacation in Rome. The Romans are very friendly and love kids.

Be wary of the Roman Guards at places like the Colosseum. Do not take pictures of them unless you are prepared to pay. You should be fine as long as you agree on a price before hand. The price they give is per person in the picture. (1 picture = x Lire, 1 picture with 3 people =3x Lire).

Do not let anyone give you a rose or tie a string around your wrist. You will then be obligated to pay for this.We saw some of these people at the Spanish steps.I have heard the same with touching items at the vendor booths however this was not our experience.

There are young women who pretend to be twisted old beggars. They are not dangerous so much as scam artists.

I have also heard that you should watch for children with cardboard signs which they use to block your way while others pick your pockets. This also happens with women carrying fake babies which they throw at you to distract you. (never actually saw either of these though)

We rented a small apartment in the piazza of the Pantheon. From there you can walk anywhere. For breakfast we would walk to the Campo di Fiori (central fruit market) and grab a few bags of the best fruit we've ever tasted. Go to the first stall and buy whatever they guy tells you is good. They also let you sample for free and give pieces of fruit to the young ones.

There is an extra charge for bread at restaurants. They automatically bring it to the table but it is not complimentary. If you do not want it politely refuse when they bring it. I have also read that it is cheaper to dine inside. It cost more to eat outside as you also have the view. (We never actually tested this though). OrlaC is right about the coffee too. It can be close to double the price if you want to sit down.

As for Paris, we didn't really run into any problems. The only thing to watch out for is the dog poop. I suppose there are pick pockets but just keep money zipped up and close to you. Don't leave purses beside your chair where people can snatch them while you are enjoying a meal outside.

Hope this helps
Enjoy you trip.
