Where should my husband & I go on vacation to Europe this summer? We have 1 week probably in August. Thanks!!!

Posted by admin on October 3rd, 2008 and filed under cheap paris vacation | 6 Comments »

We will probably be able to go for 1 week the beginning of August. We have been to Paris, Interlaken, Amsterdam and Milan. Paris was our favorite because we enjoy walking around and exploring on our own. We loved the culture, people, food and museums. We loved the beauty of Interlaken. I liked the museums of Amsterdam and walking aroud the city but I didn't love the seediness/dirtyness of all of the coffee shops and red light district area. Milan seemed great but we were silly and went there when all of Milan was "closed"- everyone was gone on holiday. I have been to Barcelona and London so would like to go somewhere different. However I loved Barcelona. London was a bit too much like NY for me.
Our hope for this vacation is to stay in 1 -2 cities for the week depending on how close they are (we don't like to rush around). We would like to go some place cheaper than Paris but other than that, we are very open to ideas! I also don't want to go somewhere super hot if possible.

Try Copenhagen! Not too hot in the summer, very nice (small scale) downtown. The old harbor is nice, the harbor is great and Tivoli is fun for a (part of) the day. Strolling downtown Copenhagen is very relaxing and there are nice restaurants.

Or try Oslo. The Vigeland park is amazing (statues).

You might combine Copenhagen with a visit to Sweden if you stay for a week.

Oslo (and to a lesser extend Copenhagen) is quite expensive, but you don't need a car.

vacation to france, looking for lots of information?

Posted by admin on October 1st, 2008 and filed under cheap paris vacation | 4 Comments »

just wondering what is the best time of the year to travel to paris? also the part of the year where it is cheaper to travel there. how exspensive is it there? is it cheaper to stay in a motel outside of the city, if so, which cities would you reccomend that are close to paris? or what motels would you reccomend that are of good quality and cheap prices?

The best time of the year is either the late Spring or the early fall.

The very cheapest times to travel would be the late fall, winter, or very early spring.

It is a very big mistake and a false economy to stay outside the city limits of Paris. While public transportation is excellant and inexpensive the minor savings cannot justify the inconvenience.

Paris is one of the most affordable Western European capitals and hotel rooms in the city center can easily be found for100 euros or less for a double.

Generally these will be in establishments that are quite charming although usually lacking things like minibars, cable TV, elevators, ice machines, and the other accoutraments of the usual Holiday Inn in Omaha. But then I hope you're not going to Paris to sleep or sit in your room and watch TV.

What are some really cool, cheap places to visit in Europe?

Posted by admin on September 30th, 2008 and filed under cheap paris vacation | 5 Comments »

As of now, I'm studying in Germany, the semester is almost over which means vacation time. I would like to travel a bit during that time.
I already went to Crakow, Berlin, Munich, Vienna, Freiburg, Zurich and the Alps, though you can never get enough of Switzerland.
What are some cool places I could go to? Barcelona? Rome? Venise? Paris? Bratislava? Zagreb? What about Stockholm?
Yes, Prague is also on the list, I'm 3 hours away from it :)
Ohrid, Macedonia, lovely and cheap ;o)

Living in Paris for 1 month on a budget… What to do?

Posted by admin on September 28th, 2008 and filed under cheap paris vacation | 3 Comments »

Checked Numerous sites, read tons and tons of books, now I try here. I am looking for free and cheap things to do in paris to keep me occupied on this vacation. Thanks in advance.

Lucky you. I've spent about a month there over three trips and I still could go back. Use the Metro. It's great feels very Euro and cheap. The Sevres pottery factory on the outskirts as well as Versailles can be visited by Metro. Get the latest Michelin guide. It's all you need. It has walking routes mapped out as well as everything you need to know. With a month it would be easy to take some short train trips for the day. Here's one that I highly recommend. The finest chateau in France, the prototype for Versailles, called Vaux le Vicomte, forty miles south of Paris from Gare Sud, outside of the city of Melun. It's a perfect day trip and there is a shuttle bus from the station. You will not regret it

How much would a European vacation cost?

Posted by admin on September 27th, 2008 and filed under cheap paris vacation | 2 Comments »

I'm planning to go in Autumn of 2009, after I graduate college/university. Now I want to go to Europe for two weeks. I planned to go to France for a month, but I know that is unrealistic for me since I have work and another school again, etc.

Anyway I wanted to go to for 4 different countries in one to two weeks. I'm planning Paris, Berlin, Barcelona and either Rome or Zurich. Now how much would all this cost me or does anyone know any good sites for this. I don't really care for a hotel and if I have to a very cheap one. Please help!

Oh and I'd be coming from Toronto, Canada. I'd be going around mid to end October. I'm not going to shop or buy anything crazy. Just good food and sights.

Thank you in advance!

For a 2 weeks trip in Europe, the price of the trip alone will start at 2000 USD (don't know how much in loonies). Your best bet would be to go to a local travel agent and have them book the whole thing for you. Then all you have to do is show up. Most hotels will offer half-board (breakfast and dinner), so you might be able to save a little bit on meals as well.

What's the best European vacation spot in January?

Posted by admin on September 26th, 2008 and filed under cheap paris vacation | 4 Comments »

My family and I are trying to decide where to vacation this January. Our choices (so far) are London, Edinburgh, Rome, Munich or Paris. The tickets to Munich are about $250 cheaper to Munich, but I don't know about the cost once we get there. So, I'm basically looking for a place that will have lots to do, be easy to get around, and not be super expensive once we get there. Do any of these places stand out over the others?

Thanks

I was in Rome in January, and I have been to Paris in February. (London and Edinburgh in summer and winter, but never Munich) I love traveling in the winter, there is hardly any tourist and the people seem to be very friendly because of it. Well all those cities will be expensive but there isn't to much you can do about that. London and Edinburgh probably the most expensive because of the pound. Rome was expensive but so much cheaper if you try and find non-touristy place to eat, there was lots of lunch specials at tratorria's with starter and main course for 8-10 euros , not bad. Plus lots of fruits stalls around the city, selling cheap fruit, ie a container of nectarines for 1 euro. Rome is so amazing to , there is really so much to see, probably more to see there than most major cities. I hope you choose Rome, and you and your family love it as much as I did.

would it be cheaper/better to stay in paris or italy? and how far are they from each other?

Posted by admin on September 25th, 2008 and filed under cheap paris vacation | 3 Comments »

paris and italy are the two places that i would love to visit, i was thinking that if i vacationed in one city, that i could travel (by the trains?) to the other if they werent too far from each other, if thats possible, which city would be cheaper to stay in, paris or a city in italy? and which city?

I've been to both cities, and I'd recommend staying in Paris and then traveling to Italy. Paris has a great metro system and it is easy to get around. You can also find good deals into Paris during the off season.

I believe that the trip from northern Italy into Paris is about a day's drive, but you can check online for info about the European rail system.

What is the best and cheapest way to get from Paris to Luxembourg for the day?

Posted by admin on September 24th, 2008 and filed under cheap paris vacation | 3 Comments »

We are going to be vacationing in Paris, and would like to spend a day and a night in Luxembourg. The Eurail ticket, round trip, would total $150 each, and that seems pretty expensive. Is there a better way?

Run, run, run.
