My family is choosing a summer vacation. I have been to both London and Paris before, when I was much younger, and so has my father, but my two other family members have never been out of the country.
We are ages 45, 45, 18, and a precocious 12.
We like history, a unique culture/flavor to the area, beautiful architecture, good food, and interesting things to see.
Which destination do you suggest for an entertaining, relaxing one-week trip?
1. Amsterdam, Brussels, Bruges, Antwerp, etc
2. London and Paris
3. London, Cornwall, the New Forest, etc in Southern England

I can agree with bigmomma in most she says.
For practical reasons, London and Southern England will give you a good choice. Stay in London for a few days, take the train out of the town and pick up a rental car, and drive from a midsize town.
You can train it all in England too, I have done often and you can reach almost every famous sight. But having a car for four is not that much more expensive and would give you much more freedom to combine places.
The Netherlands and Belgium is also a nice area, (there my opinion is different) but you need to combine towns/cities with nature and villages to enjoy it to its fullest extend. You can even base yourself in one or two towns and do your traveling as daytours from there. Amsterdam-Brussels is about 3 hours trainjourney or drive when there are no traffic jams.
I would advice against just London and Paris, as you miss much that makes the countries.
If you have more than 3 weeks you can combine London, south east England, north west France and Paris, but do not do it in less time, waste of the travel, (as I see it.) And in rural France and England you will find much more history than in both capital cities.
Food in Belgium and France is great, but you will find much to like in England and the Netherlands too, specially if you are not shy in trying out different things.
If you travel in summer by public transport you will need reservations, if you travel by car is it a good idea to have reservations, as the summer is when all Europeans take their summer holidays too.

I was curious as to whether or not someone could kind of make up a simple itinerary for my families Vacation to Europe. Not really a whole trip just kind of like the places we should visit sites to see while in those places, an idea of how long to stay in each place, and maybe some hotel suggestions. Anyway we would like to visit Europe during the month of june or july of this year. We plan on spending a couple weeks maybe 3 in Europe visiting the different cities and sites of Europe. A few ideas of places we would like to visit include: Paris, Rome, Milan, Venice, London, maybe even Barcelona or Munich. Are these good places? Also there are 4 people who will be going and I will be 15 when we go, my brother 12, and my dad is not exactly a museum/ artsy person so limited art stuff. I know it's rather sad, but I believe me and mom would be the only ones to enjoy it. The other two would probably rather be riding a filthy roller coaster at Six-flags. So anyhow if you also have hotel and restaurant suggestions or really any helpful information that would be awesome!

Rome, Milan, Venice, and Munich are the best choices.
In Rome, the must-sees are:
Trev vi Fountain-its fun to sit and watch how the theives throw in their
magnetic devices and steel coins, most of them
surprisinglyy don't get caught, but you'll understand
when you get footage of this
Colosseumm(Flavian Amphitheater)-I wouldn't actually go in if I were you, its costly and its not worth it,
the "roman gaurds" surrounding it are not free for pics
Next to the Flavian Amphitheater is the Arch of Trajan(or Titus)
and the Ruins of Rome(it is really easy to get lost and if you
want to save money and learn a great deal, walk close to
one of the tour groups:D
In Venice the people w/ the boats(im sorry for sounding ignorant,
i forgot their name) are very costly, but if you do plan on getting
on one you should walk around and look for better deals, and when
you do find one w/ a good price you should be able to persuade
him to lower it.
On the topic of eating and food, I recommend going out to eat
on a few occasions b/c it is also expensive and adds up.
Just simply go to markets/stores and you can buy meals and
snacks while saving ALOT of money.
Hotels:
In Rome: Hotel Giorgina
-two stars, in walking distance to Colloseum, train station
-good price, w/ complimentary breakfast

I'd also advise going to Florence,Italy and if you are military,
Eidelweiss, Germany.Eidelweiss is a resort in the most
beautiful part of Germany. It is extremely nicely priced,
w/ pool, arcade room, restaurant+buffet, the views from the
rooms are centered on a breathtaking view of
the zugspitz(tallest mountain in Germany)
While there you can take a horse and carriage ride
throughout the local town, Helen,
or a 3-Country tour, where you are on a charter bus
for a day and you are taken on a tour to Switzerland,
(you'll stop for lunch and its extremely expensive)
Leichtenstein, (very small, and beautiful), and Austria.
You'd also be taken to the castle of Neushwanstein
(definitely spelt wrong).
While at the resort you can also be taken to Eagle's
Nest, where Hitler lived.
While in Florence or Rome, take a train to Pisa.

My husband and I usually take business trips to Europe and have obtained schengen business visa many times, but when it comes to a family vacation, we are totally lost! how can we obtain schengen visa in order to spend three weeks in France?
you do exactly the same as for a business visa but have to ask the french embassy if you put your kids on your passeport or if they need one,quite simple especially if you have been there before

hey
so here is the deal… i have been put in charge of planning my families holiday vacation this year. we usually go out of the country. we have been to costa rica, mexico city/oxaca, london and paris and we went to spain this summer. the problem is that with the economy so bad we don’t want to spend very much. it does not have to be out of the country really, we used to go to Durango every year to ski and snowboard. any interesting ideas? any inexpensive travel ideas? where have you gone that you have really liked and it didn’t cost a fortune? and i know this is last minute… we weren’t even planning on going anywhere this year until just recently. oh and we live in Arizona just so you have a reference.

Miami, Florida. The weather is warm and just a bit breezy during the winter. There is a hotel by the beach called Newport Beachside resort. It is affordable and is near great tourists places. A standard room costs $62.30 a night. I hope this suits what you’re looking for.
