In May 2009, I want to spend one week in Europe. I want to visit Amsterdam and Paris for sure… undecided on the rest. I would like ANY advice on ANY part of this vacation, from people who have already been there.
For example… is it best to buy a package deal off the internet or consult a local travel agent?
I have never been out of the United States and am excited and scared of making a mistake in my travel plans.
Thanks in advance for taking the time to answer my question.
I think for a week you will have your hands full with just these two cities.
Paris is enough to fill a week at least by itself, by adding Amsterdam you will loose most of a day on traveling, checking out of your hotel/hostel, the actual travel and checking in and getting your bearings in your new hotel will take from breakfast till nearly dinnertime.
It is like somebody who is going to New York for a few days and add Washington DC to the mix because he was near. Or LA and San Francisco.
There are tours that do half of Europe in a week, but I think you would be crazy to do one, as you will not remember anything you have seen, only the inside of the bus.
If you want to do a package tour, and you have a reliable travel agent near, (that is in the USA,) go there. Do not book through an agent in Europe, as you can not judge whether the agent is trustworthy,
If you are unsure of what to book and where to go, go for an ‘all in’ tour, that is hotel in Paris, tours in town, 2 or 3 meals per day and a guide to fall back on.
I am sure that every travel agent will be able to find one of those for you.
(I would personally not combine Paris and Amsterdam, but if you insist, it is possible.)

I want to go some place like Thailand, the Carribean, etc. Not important where but important that it's cheap including airfare. The catch - I want to go for Christmas and New Years when the rates are highest. How can I find a deal on this? All inclusive packages are attractive but then again with places like Thailand where you can get a beach bungalow for $5/day you really only need the airfare.
I could conceivable leave out of Zurich, Paris, Frankfurt, Milan (preferable) or for a super deal I could fly from Philadelphia, New York City, Washington DC.
Can anyone help? I just want to spend christmas and new years in a gorgeous tropical island place without breaking the bank!
Thanks!
How about a donkey for travel and a stable for accommodation?
Nah - that's silly. No one would do that.

I'm looking into vacationing in europe over the summer, but most travel websites only have packages that stay in one destination the whole time (i.e. 7 days in Paris). I would like to visit several countries if i make the trip. Should I just go and look for a hotel while there? or is there a site where I could reserve hotels in various places (i.e one night in paris, two nights in rome, etc.). Any other advice for a first time visitor? I'm thinking of planning for a mid-August trip, is this an ok time to visit?
Not only is August one of the busiest times for tourists but also for locals. You can expect long lines at most of the popular sites in Europe at this time. As for lodging, during the peak summer months I would advise a reservation, but during off peak you don't need reservations and can find some of the best deals at train stations and airports. The first time I went during the end of Sept. and early Oct. When we got off a train with our luggage often locals that worked for hotels would spot us and asked if we needed a place 2 stay. They would show us brochures for low, med. & high prices places and then we would choose and they would carry our bags as we followed them. We stayed in some lovely Pensiones in Venice (1/2 blk from San Marco square), Florence, Rome (in walking distance from the Coliseum), Corfu, Greece and we got a high rise luxury hotel in Athens for a very reasonable price. We were directed 2 all of these by locals who I believe get some sort of fee for bringing guests. In London and Paris we made reservations as these 2 cities are always busy. You didn't mention if u r a student or have the finances for hotels. There is a big difference if you plan 2 stay at youth hostels which often don't let you check in until evening and then you must depart first thing in the morning. Also, if you are going by yourself there are some single vacations companies that put groups of 18 to 35 year olds together and often have discount accommodations. If you are traveling with someone and are sharing costs then there are lots of different options. If you want 2 ask me specific questions u can e-mail me.

Is there a package that takes you to these places?
You can check out all the tours companies. It depends on your budget.
Globusjourneys.com is the number 1 company but a little pricy, but I enjoyed thier company immensely.
Tralfalgar.com - was ok….but a little cheaper.
Contiki - is a tour company that specializes in ppl 18-35…so its geared towards younger ppl and a little cheaper.
here is a site with all the tour companys…check it out
http://www.escortedtouroperators.com/
I would go with Globus if you can afford it or contiki if you need a little pocket room and you fit in the age bracket

We would like to stay in one large suite or two of the same in a strip hotel, MGM Grand, Paris LV, etc. We would like to get a "package" deal- airfare and room included if possible. Or we could book seperately and stay in different rooms. We thought it would be less expensive to get one room and multiple flights.
I would advise just having everyone book separately. Contrary to popular belief, there is no such thing as a discount group rate in Las Vegas and the hotels will actually charge you more if you book as a group, since they see it as more work. The only exception would be if several hundred people were going. Package deals are sometimes better than booking hotel and flight separately, but not always. You should look at getting the best airfare and best hotel price. Then compare it with some of the hotel packages. Southwest Vacations, if they serve your area, will usually have the lowest air/hotel rates. American West (now U.S. Airways) would be the second best place. You should also check with Travelocity, Cheaptickets, and Las Vegas Direct.
You should also see how separate air and hotel does in terms of price. You will find that you have much more flexibility in the flight times and airline, which can be very important to people. Good package deal rates often arrive and leave at very odd times, or have multiple stops and layovers, which can cut your vacation short. Consider using Cheaptickets.com to locate a good airfare. Also check with Southwest. Next, try the individual hotel websites for hotel rates. You should also, compare them with third-party hotel reservation sites like LasVegasDirect, Vegas.com, Travelocity, Expedia, and TripRes.
While you can save by having 4 people stay in one room, you will be charged an extra person fee that is around $30-$60 per night, so you need to read the details when making a choice. Also, it can be very crowded to have so many people in a hotel room, so you might want to consider that too. Lastly, suites in Las Vegas are very limited and will cost you much more than getting 2 rooms next to each other.

WHY TRAVEL?
In real estate, they say location is everything. In business, success usually has a great deal to do with timing. In travel, there couldn’t be a better moment than right now. We are currently experiencing the intersection of two very big trends that WorldVentures is perfectly poised to take advantage of.
TREND #1:
Simply put, travel is the world’s largest industry. At over 7 Trillion spent annually worldwide, and a growth rate that puts it on pace to double in the next 4-6 years, it’s a vast market. Baby Boomers are retiring at the rate of 1 every 8 seconds and they will continue to drive the growth for the next 10-20 years. With an industry this big, a company able to capture even a small piece of that pie could be wildly successful and profitable.
TREND #2:
With the dawn of the internet age, more and more consumers are booking their travel online. In 2006, Forrester Research reported that 73% of US Households are online and 82% of US travelers are online. More than half of them research and book travel online. In fact, according to CNN Money, travel is the single largest category or e-commerce, accounting for about 43% of all online spending. This means that the industry is no longer controlled by store-front agencies. The mom and pop travel agencies who used to be the fixture of every strip center and shopping mall are rapidly disappearing.
The result of all this is that while more money is being spent on travel and more of it is being spent online, consumers are experiencing a lack of human interaction. WorldVentures offers the solution: a calendar filled with dozens of pre-planned vacation packages at wholesale prices so you don’t have to deal with the hassle of planning your next trip, or high price of paying retail. We combine that with a proprietary search technology that merges high-tech and high-touch for the next evolution in travel. It’s a complete solution for all your leisure travel needs. If you need a vacation, you need WorldVentures.

I want to go for about a month to 6 weeks….I’ll mix it up between hotels hostels and such…maybe camp a little too.
It will include Ireland, England, France, Netherlands, Germany, Italy, and Greece…..and maybe Spain
I plan to do lots of sight seeing..and a little of experiencing the city experience in places like Dublin, Paris, Rome…
I don’t want to blow money the whole trip but i don’t want to have to be meager also…I want to have a lot of fun.
How much money should I expect to spend on a trip like this???
fly through ice land. Its cheaper and you can visit places there.
