Hi all, I am traveling to Manchester this May around the 7th and am hoping to take my husband along so we can make it a family vacation. I've got a bunch of questions..
Is it possible to have a fun vacation while located in Manchester? We have to stay at hotel in manchester and fly into there for sure.
1) We will be going for about 3 days, so is there stuff to do in Manchester?
2) The flights are costing a huge amount, so we don't want to go if its a waste (we need to pay for one ticket, I am traveling on business)
3) How do I get from Manchester to London? I see the virgin trains cost about 60 pounds one way.. Is it possible to commute to london two days to go sight seeing?
5) we really want to goto london, so thats one of the important parts of the vacation, though am sure how to manage it from manchester.
6) Will we be able to touch Paris by any chance? I see there is the eurostar, but I am not able to work out how we can plan all this with manchester as the base..
Thanks a lo
Can you please tell me in detail what are the best things to do in Manchester? Also, what is the cheapest I can find tickets between manchester and london for? (oh and I am from Chicago)
Personally i think if you pack too much into 3 days you'll rush around and miss a lot. Make it another time and focus on London rather than Paris.
It's best to stay in London for part of the time, so i have given you one of the good websites for selecting places to stay there:
London:http://www.cheaperthanhotels.co.uk/United-Kingdom/London/
Do your research on the official tourism site fo rBritain and send them an email with your specific questions - they are quite helfpful:
Official London Site via TourismRankings:http://www.tourismrankings.com/United-Kingdom/States-Cities/London/
For transport in London:http://www.tfl.gov.uk/
Railways/Trains:http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/
If you get stuck call in a local travel agent, but definitely book the hotels on a non US site - it's cheaper.

Cheap flights: try http://www.flycheapo.com (nb this only does the 'budget' airlines, not the normal carriers such as BA).
Cheap trains: look at http://www.thetrainline.com as they will give you a range of prices (cheaper ticket = more restrictions). Buses can be cheaper, look at http://www.nationalexpress.co.uk
Lots to do in Manchester - totally redeveloped for Commonwealth Games a few years ago. Lots of restaurants and museums. Close to Liverpool (beautiful city and full of Beatles stuff). Close to North Wales and the Lake District (walking).
London - best to go for 2 days (1 overnight) as it's quite a long distance from Manchester.
Paris - Eurostar from London or fly from Manchester/London
Honestly, I think you have to choose 2 of London, Paris and Manchester in order to see enough of them to make it worthwhile

i haven't been to London, so i can't really answer those questions but my travel site possibly could. I don't know if you have booked this vacation yet or not, but you can do that on the site as well.
