I'll be in Amsterdam for five days in late September. I'd like to travel to another city via either a direct flight or train. Any suggestions? Given I'm from the US, a non-Euro currency country would be preferable (I'd love to do London or Paris again, but they're too expensive). I've seen a great deal of Europe (toured Italy, Spain, Germany and parts of Eastern Europe extensively), so a slightly more obscure location would be great. Thanks.
The closest non-Euro currency country to Amsterdam after Britain is Denmark.
Capital Copenhagen.
Great city. You can have a realy nice time there.

How about Brussels, Belgium? Its really not very far from Holland, but is quite different! As a plus- Belgium is the beer capital of the world. You could drink many different beers every day you are there and barely scratch the surface. Many of the beers date back to the Middle Ages. Sounds pretty good to me!

They are on the Euro, however.

How about Costa Rica? Lots of Dutch and Europaers like to go there and Martinair flies from Amsterdam to San Jose, stop in Miami, and KLM probably flies nonstop.
It's cheap, beautiful different, and you could go to the beach and mountains and chooose to be warm or cool only 30 minutes drive either way. Visit volcanoes, then you're not far from home (??)
Another option would be Portugal, which I love and it's a bit cheaper, or the Azores Islands.
I want to go to Croatia, so that's where I'd choose.
