Hi all, I am traveling to Manchester this May around the 7th and am hoping to take my husband along so we can make it a family vacation. I've got a bunch of questions..
Is it possible to have a fun vacation while located in Manchester? We have to stay at hotel in manchester and fly into there for sure.
1) We will be going for about 3 days, so is there stuff to do in Manchester?
2) How do I get from Manchester to London? I see the virgin trains cost about 60 pounds one way.. Is it possible to commute to london two days to go sight seeing?
3) we really want to goto london, so thats one of the important parts of the vacation, though am sure how to manage it from manchester. Is it really tough to commute
our way for 2 days?
6) Will we be able to touch Paris by any chance? I see there is the eurostar, but I am not able to work out how we can plan all this with manchester as the base..
Thanks a lot.. I wanna know if we can have a chance at enjoying london while not staying in the city..
Can you please tell me in detail what are the best things to do in Manchester? Also, what is the cheapest I can find tickets between manchester and london for? (oh and I am from Chicago)
Train takes less than 2 1/2 hours Manchester to London so you can fit London in if you want, although it would be easier if you could stay the night in London. I think you would be crazy to try and fit Paris in if you are only there for 3 days. It might just be possible but you would end up spending more time on a train than in any of the cities. Manchester and London will have plenty to entertain you. If you are getting train tickets check out return costs and single costs as you can save a lot of money if you do some research.

We've lived in Liverpool for 8 weeks-moved from Texas to here. It's been a great adventure. We did London for a week. I would suggest you take the Virgin train. It takes about 2 1/2 hours. If you leave early in the morning, and return late in the evening, then you can do London in a day. You just need to plan out where you're going really carefully so you're not running all over the city. There is a lot to do in both Manchster and the surrounding area, just figure out what you're interested in do search from there. Trying to go to Paris for the day, I would think would be a really long trip, plus you'd probably spend more time commuting than actually visiting. London is also more expensive than the North another factor to consider Also be sure to plan for jet lag asyou don't say where you are coming from and there is a time difference to account for as well. Hope this helps.
